1. Travel mid week if possible. Monday and Friday are normally the busiest travel days, so try to schedule air travel on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
2. The earlier the flight the better. When flying to busy and congested east coast destinations, the earlier flight the better, as delays get longer as the day progresses. The added bonus of leaving earlier in the day is less time in security lines.
3. Avoid afternoon thunderstorms. Once thunderstorm season starts, the worst thunderstorms usually flair up in the afternoons or early evenings, as the heat builds during the day. Try to leave as early as possible, with early morning departures being generally the best.
