Memphis International Airport (MEM)

Facility Representative Peter Sufka

1.  If able, depart before 8:00 a.m.  We have a number of flights that depart Memphis before 8:00 a.m., and the majority of these are destined for major hub airports.  We rarely have delays on these flights.

2.  If able, avoid flying through Atlanta.  Unless the weather conditions in Atlanta are great, you can expect delays, and Memphis has enough destinations to make avoiding Atlanta possible.  I recommend that passengers factor alternate routes when planning to fly out of Memphis.

3.  Be ready to fly when you board the plane.  I can't count the number of times I have had a line of taxiing aircraft stop because a passenger has left their seat and is moving around inside the plane.  Sometimes this negatively impacts release times to airports with delay programs such as Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Chicago, or Detroit.
