Indianapolis International Airport (IND)

Indy

Indianapolis International Airport (IND)

1.  Avoid connecting thru Chicago O'Hare if possible.  ORD is only a 35-minute flight from Indianapolis.  The aircraft arrival line-up for ORD passes directly over Indy and is pretty well set up before it gets here.  If there is any restriction in the arrival rate, our departures get delayed in preference to the aircraft already airborne.

2.  Avoid evening arrivals or departures.  The flow restrictions to the east coast are the most severe Sunday thru Friday evenings after 4:00 p.m.

3.  Avoid the last flight of the day to IND.  Indy is FedEx's second largest U.S. hub. The last airline flights that arrive between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. mix with the inbound push of FedEx. FedEx's Indy fleet consists of 80% heavy jets and this can lead to some delays due to the increased spacing required behind heavy jets.
