Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

Facility Representative Luke Ball

1.  Fly early in the day during the summer months.  By noon, heating creates the popup thunderstorms that wreak havoc on normal flight operations.  Once the flight patterns go into reroutes to avoid these random storms, delays are usually 1-2 hours.

2.  General Aviation tip. Flying into or out of larger airports, such as IAH, if you can adjust your arrival or departure time 30-45 minutes, you can usually avoid the arrival and departure "pushes". Assuming weather hasn't screwed up flight operations, a slight adjustment to your time can avoid mixing in with the big aircraft. This can save you idling and taxi time.
