KVUE (NBC) reports, "Some local air traffic controllers voiced concerns Thursday about what they call a staffing crisis at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and across the nation...'Right now we have the numbers. It's that, what even the administrator call, the tsunami of retirement. It's coming, and that's what they're not preparing for,' said. Air traffic controllers say they've been warning the FAA for years. Here in Austin, 35 professional certified controllers work at the tower with 6 trainees. Eleven are already ready to retire. And the Controllers Association says 50 percent of all controllers nationwide would be eligible to retire by 2007. "
