A Staffing Crisis: By The Numbers

 

INDIANAPOLIS CENTER

  • The facility is authorized to have 495 controllers on board, according to FAA.
  • There are 335 certified professional controllers (CPCs, fully trained) on board.  46 trainees, 10 medical disqualifications.
  • 19 controllers will be eligible to retire by the end of 2005.
  • 42 (50%) controllers will be eligible to retire by the end of 2007.

(NOTE: To become eligible to retire, a controller must either have worked 20 years and reach 50 years of age, or worked 25 years and be any age)

 

INDIANAPOLIS TOWER

    • The facility is authorized to have 56 controllers on board, according to FAA.
    • There are 51 certified professional controllers (CPCs, fully trained) on board.  4 trainees.
    • 2 controllers will be eligible to retire by the end of 2005.
    • 7 controllers will be eligible to retire by the end of 2007.
