Associated Press State & Local Wire: Air traffic controllers call for wider use of ground radar

Thursday, November 03, 2005

The Associated Press reports, "Air traffic controllers in Memphis joined colleagues around the country Wednesday to complain about the scope of a federal program for installing new radar equipment at airports.  The controllers say the Federal Aviation Administration plans to put the Airport Surface Detection Equipment, or ASDE-X, at too few airports. Memphis is not among the airports scheduled to receive the equipment.  The FAA, meanwhile, announced Wednesday that the equipment, which monitors ground movement on or near runways, will be installed at 15 airports around the country beginning early next year."
