Air Traffic Controller ProfilesChallenging. Exciting. Rewarding. These are just three adjectives air traffic controllers often use to describe their profession. Safely separating aircraft as they move across our nation's sky is an enormous responsibility that controllers gladly undertake because keeping our skies safe is a passion not just a job. How an individual became a part of this profession varies because a set career path isn't established. Some began their career in the military before becoming a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controller, while others first completed their education at a school offering an air traffic control program. But the FAA does have set criteria that interested candidates must meet including being 30 years of age or younger, being a United States citizen and passing a rigid medical examination including but not limited to a vision, hearing, substance abuse/dependency along with a background check.
